Darklink appearance vs persona: make the choices work together

Eye colour and hairstyle describe a look. Personality, relationship and occupation describe different parts of the intended interaction. Treating them as one undifferentiated list makes a character harder to plan and harder to evaluate afterwards.

Our October 25, 2026 DarLink test used Mara Lake, a fictional 25-year-old librarian. Darklink is the name of this independent site. We followed the guided builder through saving and checked the resulting private profile and opening message. This is evidence about that workflow, not a visual-likeness or personality-consistency benchmark.

Start by assigning each choice a job

Choice What to plan What not to infer from the selection alone
Visual style The broad look of the fictional character A guarantee of a particular generated image
Eyes and hair A small recognizable set of visible traits A specific speaking style
Personality The intended manner of response Perfect compliance in every turn
Relationship The familiarity at the start A complete shared history
Occupation Context and a reason to talk Verified expertise or factual advice

For our librarian, Anime styling, hazel eyes and long ginger hair formed the visible brief. Caring, Friend and Librarian formed the persona choices. They described the same fictional adult without requiring a real person’s identity or photographs.

What the builder preserved

The selections remained in place when we reached Summary. An authentication step then appeared. After free login and completion, the saved character was available under My AI, and the profile displayed Private Profile and Created by You.

That sequence let us check continuity across the builder and sign-in handoff. A selection visible at an early step is not enough; review the final summary and saved result rather than assuming every earlier click was retained.

Automatic name generation failed during the visitor run, but the name field remained editable. Entering an original fictional name manually allowed us to continue. A convenience feature failing does not necessarily mean the underlying configuration is unusable.

The opening gave us a limited persona signal

The initial greeting referred to reshelving returns, which fit the selected occupation. That was a relevant detail, but it did not prove that the personality, relationship or every appearance setting would remain consistent over time.

To evaluate a persona, choose a behaviour you can observe: asks a clarifying question, keeps a response brief, or admits a missing detail. A broad personality label needs that operational check. A pleasant greeting alone is not a substitute.

Similarly, do not judge image consistency from a summary of trait names. Our configuration test did not compare a series of generated portraits against those choices. The supplied photographs on this website are design illustrations, not evidence of DarLink output.

Build a compact acceptance checklist

Before final creation, write three visual details and two conversational expectations. Check the visual details in the summary. After saving, check the profile and read the greeting. Then try one neutral prompt that exercises a conversational expectation.

If a result is wrong, identify the category of the mismatch. A hair setting, an assumed relationship and an invented scene fact require different revisions. Changing all of them at once makes it harder to learn anything from the next attempt.

The local configuration card is a place to organize these choices. It does not submit a character, generate an image or guarantee a particular result in the provider’s builder.
