Darklink visitor builder vs free-account access: three separate milestones
Being able to choose a character’s appearance does not mean you can save it without an account. Saving it does not mean the conversation will continue without an access limit. Check those steps separately when evaluating a free trial.
We followed DarLink’s visitor builder and then used an approved free account on October 25, 2026. The fictional character was a 25-year-old librarian. No subscription or token purchase was made, and no private photos were uploaded.
Milestone one: configuring as a visitor
The builder allowed us to select Anime style, an adult age, eye and hair traits, and later personality, relationship and occupation. Our selections were visible at Summary. An authentication dialog appeared before the creation could be completed.
This was useful access to configuration, but not proof of an anonymous saved character. If you are preparing a brief, note which choices survive to the summary and whether you can review them before entering the next step.
One convenience action, automatic name generation, failed during our run. Entering a fictional name manually worked. That is a narrow practical workaround for an editable name field, not a way around authentication or an entitlement gate.
Milestone two: saving after authentication
After free login, the character could be reached through My AI. Its profile showed Private Profile and Created by You. The chosen appearance and persona had survived the handoff sufficiently for us to inspect the saved result and begin a conversation.
Check the actual saved profile instead of treating a preview as completion. A preview can show the choices you are about to submit; it does not establish that the character exists in the account or that every subsequent function is included.
| Stage | A useful verification | A conclusion to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor builder | Review the selected values in Summary | All creation is anonymous |
| Saved character | Find the result under My AI | Every chat and media action is unrestricted |
| First conversation | Confirm that the greeting and replies load | A fixed free allowance for every account |
| Access gate | Record the exact stopping point | Capabilities behind the gate have been tested |
Milestone three: continuing the chat
We received a greeting and answers to two user prompts. The third attempted prompt asked for a short recap of the established museum facts. Instead, a notice said the account had reached five free messages and offered an upgrade.
The interface’s wording did not match a simple count of five answered user turns in the visible exchange. We did not determine how the service counted messages, whether other activity contributed, or whether the allowance would reset. Do not turn this observation into a promise that every new user gets five prompts.
We stopped at the gate. That means the planned recall check remained incomplete, rather than failed. We also have no observation of the paid conversation experience that followed the offer.
Plan a small trial that answers your main question
Choose one task before opening the builder. If you need to assess creation, verify the summary and saved profile. If you need to assess dialogue, keep the first prompt specific enough that a short answer reveals something useful. If you need to compare media, a text conversation cannot provide that evidence.
Record the point where access changes and read the current account offer before considering a purchase. A trial ending early can still tell you how far you got, what worked and what remains unknown. Keep those three things separate in your decision.
